Kathmandu-The Baneshwor area of the capital became tense on Wednesday after protests by various political parties, who were outraged that the government was about to pass the MCC resolution.

The Baneshwor area became tense due to sporadic demonstrations by fraternal organizations of the CPN-Maoist Center, sister organizations of RPP, student organization of the CPN-Unified Socialist Party, ANNFSU and five smaller communist parties.

Clashes erupted when protesters broke through a restricted area during a demonstration pressuring the MCC not to table in the House of Representatives. Some protesters were injured and dozens were arrested. Police used tear gas and water cannons to disperse the protesters.

The traffic in Baneshwor area was disrupted due to the agitation. Meanwhile, the MCC table could not be held in today’s parliament sitting. Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba withdrew from the MCC table after widespread protests and failure to reach an agreement on the ruling coalition.
